The fastest way to farm crops for cooking

farming Tip

Wheat, Beans, Tomato, and Potato all follow the same Rototiller-till-then-plant loop, but Beans are the fastest since they need no watering at all.

Every farmable crop starts the same way: till soil with Rototiller (taught by Drilbur), plant seeds in the tilled plot, and wait for them to ripen. Wheat and Beans both grow from seeds found as Pokémon gifts, in Poké Balls, or bought from a region's PC shop, while Tomato and Potato need their region's Environment Level raised before their seeds appear in the shop (Bleak Beach for Tomato, Sparkling Skylands for Potato).

Beans are the standout for low-effort farming because, unlike the other three crops, they grow on their own without needing Water Gun at all once planted — making a Bean plot the crop you can plant and effectively ignore until harvest. Wheat, Tomato, and Potato all need regular Water Gun passes to ripen on schedule, so clustering those plots together near a water source cuts down on travel time during watering rounds.

These four crops matter beyond food, too — Wheat and Beans are the base ingredient for every Bread and every Hamburger Steak recipe respectively, which are the dishes that restore PP and buff Cut and Rock Smash, so a standing crop rotation doubles as passive PP-food production.
